Soft Autumn is the muted member of the Autumn family. Softness is the leading trait: skin, hair and eyes sit close in value with a gentle, slightly greyed quality. The family is warm, so all three carry a faint golden or olive glow. Contrast is low.

Skin is light to medium beige with a soft golden or olive tint. It tans to a muted gold rather than a bronze, and it can look yellowish next to pure white. Some Soft Autumns read neutral in the mirror and only show their warmth beside a cool color.

Hair is dark blonde, mushroom brown, light golden brown or a soft auburn. It carries warmth in daylight without ever reading copper or gold. Indoors it can look plain, which is the muted quality at work.

Eyes are hazel, soft green, muted teal or light brown, often with gold flecks near the pupil. The iris has a soft edge rather than a bright rim. The whites of the eyes do not stand out sharply against the skin.

How to wear the Soft Autumn palette

Soft Autumn vs Soft Summer vs True Autumn

Soft Summer is the cool sister. Both are muted and low in contrast, so the difference is temperature. A Soft Summer has pink or neutral skin, ash hair and grey-blue or grey-green eyes. Hold camel and mauve to your face. Camel evens the skin on a Soft Autumn; mauve does it on a Soft Summer.
